10 Instructor Use stock from previous turning project.
20 Vertical Mill  Check the vise for squareness using a dial indicator.
30 Vertical Mill  Indicate the vise jaw to within 0.003 inches. Have checked by instructor. *  
40 Layout Table Layout the 0.500 slot.
50 Vertical Mill Prepare to cut the slot by placing the part in vise using parallels of the proper height to allow approximately ¼ inch sitting above the top of the vice.
60 Vertical Mill Using an edgefinder, locate the center of the spindle on the center of the slot. Lock the Y axis table locks.
70 Vertical Mill Set up a 3/8 inch center cutting endmill.
80 Vertical Mill Set Rpm and  Feed rate for cutting the slot.
90 Vertical Mill Take a .03 deep cut down the center of the slot using the layout lines as a guide for the length of the slot. Stay approximately 1/32 inch from the layout lines at the ends of  the slot.
100 Vertical Mill Check the location of the center of the slot.
110 Instructor Have instructor check location. Be prepared to answer questions about table travel and backlash. Check and adjust, if necessary. *  
120 Vertical Mill Finish rough cutting the slot through the part. Use coolant.
130 Vertical Mill Place a 0.500 endmill in the spindle. Don’t move the Y-axis now that it is centered in the slot.
140 Vertical Mill Set Rpm and  Feed rate for cutting the slot with ½ inch endmill.
150 Vertical Mill Have Instructor check your setup and explain how to  check the length and location of the slot.        *  
160 Vertical Mill Finish cutting the slot.
170 Vertical Mill Prepare to cut the radii by placing the part in vise using parallels of the proper height to allow approximately 1/2 inch sitting above the top of the vice.
180 Vertical Mill Place a 0.25 radius cutting endmill in the spindle. Have instructor explain how to position the cutter to cut the radii. Set speeds and feeds for using a 0.25 radius forming endmill. Have instructor check the Setup. *  
190 Vertical Mill Cut the radius
200 Vertical Mill Turn the part over and cut the other radius.
210 Vertical Mill Set up an edgefinder and locate the position for the drilled and tapped 8-32 UNC hole.
220 Vertical Mill Center drill and drill the hole.
230 Vertical Mill Place the taper tap in a drill chuck. Put the spindle in neutral. Start the tap in the hole by hand 3 to 4 threads.
240 Vertical Mill Drop the table down and finish tapping by hand. Use the appropriate size tap handle and tapping fluid.
250 Bench Deburr and inspect the part
260 Instructor Turn in part for grading. *
