10 Instructor Obtain tubing from
instructor.
20 Lathe Install steady rest on machine.
30 Lathe If chuck size will allow,
lightly chuck internally using
a three jaw chuck. If chuck
size will not allow internal
chucking, lightly chuck
externally using a
three jaw chuck.
40 Lathe Install the cat head.
50 Lathe Bring up the dead center
near the cat head. Visually center
the cat head to the dead center.
60 Lathe Bring the tailstock spindle into
position and lock in place.
70 Lathe Indicate the diameter
of the tube adjust the cat head
as close as possible.
80 Lathe Setup tooling to turn a concentric
bearing surface approx 1-2 inches
from the right end of the tube. (see
print)
90 Lathe Tighten the chuck, be careful not to
use excessive chuck pressure. This
will cause the tube to distort.
100 Lathe Check for distortion using an indicator
on the chucked end of the tube.
