10 Machine Shop Obtain a set of parts marked
SPC.

20 Instructor Have instructor assign
Operation.( i.e. Turn 1,
Turn 2, Turn 3) . Write in number
Under operation on the chart.
30 Student Indicate Blueprint Specification
on the Chart.
40 Student Indicate that the measurements
are in 0.001 inches on the chart.
50 Instructor Obtain the correct size SPC micrometer
and calibrate it to a gage block or standard.

60
Instructor Indicate the
Micrometer has been
calibrated.
70 Inspection Area Inspect the parts in order and in
subgroups. Code according to the
blueprint specification and record the
measurements on the chart. Read the number
in the .001 position. Do Not Round off.
80 Inspection Area Add the five sizes in each subgroup
and write the result in the Total box on
the chart.
90 Inspection Area Find the average of each subgroup
by multiplying the total of each column
by 2. Write in the answer and move the
decimal point one place to the left.
(i.e. –1 X 2 = -2 written as -.2)(see
Figure 15-12, 15-13 in text)

100 Inspection Area Calculate the range for each subgroup.
(the difference between the largest and smallest size)
Write in the Ranges.
110 Inspection Calculate the average of the averages by
adding the averages of the subgroups
and dividing them by the number of subgroups.
=
Write in the X on the chart.
115 Inspection Area Calculate the Average Range by adding the
range of each subgroup together and dividing
by the number of subgroups.
120 Inspection Area Using the formulas and the constants table
in your text, Calculate the UCL and LCL
averages and write them in the chart.
130 Inspection Area Using the formulas and the constants table
in your text, Calculate the UCL range and
ranges and write them in the chart.
140 Inspection Area Plot the Averages.
150 Inspection Area Plot the Ranges.
160 Instructor Turn in for Grading
