This
series of modules involves faculty who are interested in teaching
one or more courses on the Internet for FVTC in the nuts and bolts
of designing, developing and facilitating such a course. Completion
of the entire 12 hours* earns the participant the designation
of "qualified to teach Internet courses for FVTC."
*Faculty who have completed similar training may apply that
training to the total hours required by this qualification series
with approval from the FVTC series instructors.
Bring along: Select a course you’re considering teaching
(or are assigned to teach) via the Internet.
Goal: Upon completion of the series, you will have
demonstrated the ability to design, develop, and facilitate an
effective Internet course.
Modules: 1. Setting Up the Online Learning Environment 1 hour
2. Designing and Selecting Learning Unit Content 2 hours
3. Developing and Designing Supporting Materials 3 hours
4. Selecting and Using Appropriate Assessment Strategies 2 hours
5. Facilitating and Pacing Course Activities 4 hours
Competencies:
- Design the look and feel of the online environment for ease of
use by learners and other instructors.
- Analyze the course content (activities, projects, assignments,
assessments) in terms of Internet opportunities and constraints.
- Organize selected content for most effective presentation via
the Internet.
- Develop or adapt supporting materials (i.e., documents,
multi-media clips, presentations) for ease of access, viewing and
printing purposes.
- Develop or adapt performance assessments for the course.
- Develop alternative assessment strategies where traditional
(usually used in classroom) assessments are not appropriate for
the Internet course.
Pilot all or part of one unit of the course via the Internet in a
"test" course mode. (Note: to do this, participants meet
as a group for only the 1st 2 hours of the last module and work on
their own for the last 2 hours of the last module.)
